Designing Intelligence: Powering Telarus' Innovation Through UX Strategy and Scalable AI Tools

Background

Telarus, the largest privately held technology services distributor in the U.S., empowers its network of partners with tools that streamline operations, improve customer engagement, and enhance profitability. At the center of this mission is SolutionVue, a proprietary platform designed to guide partners through solution assessments (QSAs). As Telarus planned to expand the platform’s capabilities and integrate artificial intelligence (AI), they turned to UpTop to bring clarity, strategy, and execution to their vision.

This engagement evolved into a multi-phase partnership, including the foundational UX strategy for a new “Knowledge-Plus” portal and the technical design and delivery of a brand-new AI-driven QSA experience—setting the stage for the next era of innovation at Telarus.

Challenges

Airbiquity faced a complex challenge: how to compress a wide array of telematics, diagnostics, safety, and driving behavior features into a single, intuitive app—optimized for both OEM demo purposes and future aftermarket customization. Specific challenges included:
  • Designing for multi-platform functionality (smartphone + vehicle head unit).
  • Managing complex vehicle data from OBD-II dongles.
  • Enabling demo-ready features without onboarding requirements.
  • Delivering meaningful user feedback from trip data, while making it engaging.

Approach

UpTop initiated the partnership with a robust Discovery and UX Strategy phase focused on the Knowledge-Plus portal. Through intake sessions, stakeholder interviews, and remote UX workshops, the team mapped out partner pain points, aligned on feature priorities, and defined key personas and workflows.

In the next phase, UpTop transitioned into product execution, leading the front-end design and technical implementation for enhancing the SolutionVue platform and building a net-new QSA tailored to AI capabilities. This included managing detailed sprint planning, collaborative development with Telarus engineering, and rigorous acceptance criteria.

Solution

UpTop delivered solutions across both strategic and execution-focused dimensions:
  • Knowledge-Plus Strategy:
  • Conducted UX workshops, journey mapping, and persona creation to define goals and feature hierarchy.
  • Developed a phased roadmap and IA-first design approach tailored to iPad-first usage and embedded workflows.

  • SolutionVue Enhancements:
  • Redesigned core QSA functionality to support scalable output generation, variable editing, and new formatting logic.
  • Enabled URL parameterization for analytics, improving visibility across SPA architecture.
  • Delivered UX upgrades, including dynamic “pizza tracker” scaling and admin-side logic editing tools.

  • AI QSA Build:
  • Created a modular, documentation-driven QSA engine for Artificial Intelligence solutions.
  • Engineered integration points and output logic for AI-specific supplier recommendations.
  • Developed robust error handling and validation against pre-defined acceptance thresholds.

Results & Impact

The upgraded ANS 2.0 demo debuted at ISC West with a cleaner, more professional interface that effectively guided attendees through the product’s capabilities. American Direct was equipped with a user-friendly, visually compelling demo that communicated product value with confidence.

While the tradeshow marked the initial milestone, this collaboration created a scalable design framework for future enhancements. American Direct left the event better positioned to engage prospects, differentiate from competitors, and continue iterating toward a production-ready interface.
