Archbright, a nonprofit dedicated to helping organizations elevate HR practices and workplace performance, launched mozzo in 2021—a member-exclusive web application offering powerful HR tools and resources. But by 2023, with rapid shifts in user expectations and digital design standards, Archbright recognized the need to modernize mozzo’s user experience to stay relevant and retain engagement. They turned to UpTop for a comprehensive redesign.

Modernizing HR Tech: Archbright’s mozzo Gets a Human-Centered Makeover

Background
Challenges
mozzo had grown organically over time, resulting in a user interface that felt dated and, at times, unintuitive. Key member experiences—like navigating the dashboard, building handbooks, and accessing training—lacked cohesion and accessibility. Archbright wanted more than a facelift—they needed a design that:
- Reflected modern UI/UX best practices
- Addressed known user pain points
- Met WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards
- Encouraged deeper engagement with value-driving features
The challenge was to balance forward-thinking design with practical constraints, such as reusing existing backend systems and designing for desktop-first layouts.

"Their team demonstrated their understanding of our unique needs."– Product Manager, Archbright
Approach
UpTop initiated the project with a discovery phase, conducting a deep review of business goals, user personas, system constraints, and the current mozzo experience. The team facilitated a collaborative kickoff session with Archbright stakeholders to align on vision, priorities, and key workflows.
With these inputs, UpTop mapped out a multi-phase design sprint strategy, starting with high-impact areas like the dashboard and member portal. Throughout the process, designs were developed iteratively using Figma, with regular reviews and up to two rounds of revisions per component.

Solution
UpTop redesigned core areas of the mozzo experience:
- Complex screens: Dashboard, Member Portal, Sidebar Navigation, Video Training Library, Handbook Builder
- Lightweight tools: Claims Tracker, Job Description Builder, Community, Resource Library, Salary Survey, Advisor Chat (mobile view included)
- Reusable components: Tables, forms, filters, cards, user role management, analytics tabs, and more
All designs adhered strictly to Archbright’s color palette and brand guidelines. Accessibility was built-in, with compliance to WCAG 2.2 AA baked into every component. UpTop also delivered a complete design system and documentation to support future scalability.

Results & Impact
The redesign positioned mozzo for continued growth as a core value proposition for Archbright’s membership. Though still under development at the time of this writing, anticipated outcomes include:
- Increased member engagement and retention through improved usability
- Reduced friction in core workflows like building handbooks and accessing training
- Greater internal efficiency from a reusable design system and clearer development specs
- Enhanced brand perception through a polished, modern digital presence
UpTop’s collaboration with Archbright empowered the nonprofit to evolve mozzo from a functional tool into a strategic digital asset—and one ready for the future of workplace performance.
