Challenges
To bring this imaginative vision to life, LCM needed both artistic and technology partners capable of merging creative design with robust technical execution. The project required a high degree of flexibility for future content adaptations, and it needed to align with the museum’s new physical space and thematic mission centered on nature, personal discovery, and human connection.
Approach
The project was led by Catherine Mayer, the visionary artist and founder of Ambient Art®—a patented concept that transforms static artwork into multisensory experiences that gradually come to life. UpTop played a critical role in the realization of Ambient Art by supporting storyboarding, conceptualization, and prototyping of the digital installation.
Our team took a highly collaborative, agile approach—working closely with Catherine Mayer to support her creative direction and partnering with LCM’s exhibit teams to fully understand the emotional goals and technical constraints of the installation. A distinctive element of this project was sourcing original drawings from select New Orleans grade school children. These illustrations became the foundational artwork for the display, creating a personalized and locally rooted experience.

Solution
UpTop helped bring two themed digital pieces to life:
- “Follow That Food” – Educating children on the journey of locally sourced food, from its origins to the dinner table.
- “Move With The River” – Celebrating the importance of the region’s waterways and their connection to both nature and local communities.
Both installations used calming animations and smooth visual transitions to deliver an ambient experience that was both meditative and playful—mirroring the museum’s goal of creating immersive, emotionally resonant spaces.
