UpTop is seeking experienced independent Product Designers with deep expertise in design systems and Figma to join our network of contract-based partners. As a collaborator with UpTop, you’ll help define and scale design systems that enhance product consistency and efficiency across a range of client engagements. We’re looking for designers who are systems thinkers, detail-obsessed, and thrive at the intersection of structure and creativity.

What You'll Do:

  • Define, document, and evolve robust design systems using Figma libraries, components, tokens, and variants
  • Audit and improve existing UI patterns for consistency, scalability, and accessibility
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure systematic design implementation across product experiences
  • Create Figma-based design kits and system documentation for designers and developers
  • Champion design system governance: maintain documentation, lead reviews, and support usage across teams
  • Apply strong visual and interaction design principles aligned with brand and product strategy
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders, engineers, and fellow designers to bridge design and development
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of scalable component architecture and workflows
  • Stay up to date on design systems trends and Figma feature releases

What We’re Looking For 

  • Independent contractors/freelancers with 5+ years of product or UX/UI design experience
  • Demonstrated expertise building and maintaining design systems in Figma
  • Strong understanding of design tokens, atomic design, and component reusability
  • Experience working with multi-brand or enterprise-scale design environments
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a keen eye for spacing, alignment, typography, and consistency
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to self-manage and deliver high-quality work
  • Familiarity with design handoff processes and tools like zeroheight and Storybook is a plus
  • Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles

Additional Details 

  • This is a contract opportunity for independent consultants (1099) who operate as registered business entities or LLCs; not a full-time employment position.
  • Work is fully remote (U.S.-based only)
  • You must be authorized to work in the U.S. We cannot sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas
